Prostate cancer is a disease where cells of the prostate become abnormal and start to grow uncontrollably, forming tumors.

Prostate cancer is a malignancy of one of the major male sex glands. Along with the testicles and the seminal vesicles, the prostate secretes the fluid that makes up semen. The prostate is about the size of a walnut and lies just behind the urinary bladder. A tumor in the prostate interferes with proper control of the bladder and normal sexual functioning. Often the first symptom of prostate cancer is difficulty in urinating. However, because a very common, non-cancerous condition of the prostate, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), also causes the same problem, difficulty in urination is not necessarily due to cancer.

Cancerous cells within the prostate itself are generally not deadly on their own. However, as the tumor grows, some of the cells break off and spread to other parts of the body through the lymph or the blood, a process known as metastasis. The most common sites for prostate cancer to metastasize are the seminal vesicles, the lymph nodes, the lungs, and various bones around the hips and the pelvic region. The effects of these new tumors are what can cause death.

Alcohol and your weight have a tricky relationship. So tricky, in fact, that experts have had a tough time nailing down exactly why some women wind up with a beer gut (or butt) while others drink daily and never seem to gain a pound.

Here’s what we know: Your average drink—beer, wine, martini, pick your poison—is usually a combination of carbs, sugar, and ethanol (pure alcohol). When it goes down the hatch, it makes a pit stop at your stomach, where some of the alcohol is absorbed through the lining and into your bloodstream, giving you that initial buzz. The carbs and sugar go the traditional digestive route, while ethanol, a toxin, is diverted to the liver.

This is when that innocent little drink starts messing with your internal fat incinerator. Ethanol has no nutritional value, so your body burns it off first. That means any remaining calories in your stomach—whether they’re from the margarita or the chips and guacamole you had with it—will likely be stored as fat. And the more fattening the foods you eat, the easier the calories are to store. (Bear in mind that research published in Physiology & Behavior found that alcohol makes us focus on immediate pleasure and ignore the consequences, which often results in eating junk food.) Unlike protein and carbs, which require some energy for the body to break down and store, fat can directly deposit itself, so those chips are first in line to be plastered to your thighs.

Tipsy or Trashed? One woman learns how to hold her alcohol—and her tongue.

Still, the situation might not be as bleak as it appears, because the real problem may not be drinking itself, but how often and how hard we hit the bottle.

Drink and Shrink?

Earlier this year, the Archives of Internal Medicine published what may be the best news for booze since the 21st Amendment. Researchers found that women who had one or two alcoholic drinks a day were actually less likely to gain weight than those who shunned the sauce. And they did it while consuming more calories overall (from food and drink) than both heavy drinkers and teetotalers.

Short of striking a deal with the devil, how did they manage to pull that off? Researchers believe that the bodies of longterm moderate drinkers somehow adapt to metabolize alcohol differently than heavy or occasional drinkers. They use more energy, burning the calories in the drink—or even more than that—while digesting it, says Lu Wang, M.D., Ph.D., the lead researcher of the study and an instructor in medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. Researchers are still working out the specifics of how and why this happens, but they’ve figured out that for women who drink up to eight ounces of an alcoholic beverage a day, those calories simply don’t end up as extra fat.

What happens to your body when you drink? Find out.

Of course, there’s a catch. Women who bank their daily drinks for weekends or girls’ nights out don’t qualify for the free calorie plan (and among the 18-to-25 crowd, this “binge” behavior is on the rise, according to a 2009 Addiction study). “Your body adjusts metabolically to the amount you drink, and when you don’t drink regularly, your body can’t adjust,” says Wang. Instead of learning to disregard those nutritionally empty calories, your body automatically stores them—as fat. It’s akin to tossing old clothes you don’t wear into the back of your closet, only your body doesn’t have the good sense to hide the junk. It tends to store the fat front and center, in your belly.

Booze Clues

Evidence suggests that moderate drinkers also tend to practice healthier habits than teetotalers. If you’re used to having three or four drinks every week as part of yourdiet, you’re probably compensating for them with fewer calories elsewhere. “These women know how to moderate how much they drink, so it makes sense that they’d moderate what they eat as well,” says Robert Klesges, Ph.D., a professor ofpreventive medicine at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis. The Archives study found that these women also exercise more, which knocks off additional calories.

Overcome your social anxiety without drinking or drugs.

Another thing that helped: The women in the Archives study were served no more than two four-ounce glasses of wine or two 1.5-ounce shots of liquor a day. In real life, you’re likely to be handed far more than that by a bartender or waitress—20 to 45 percent more, according to a 2009 study in the journal Alcohol. And we’re not much better when left to our own devices. “Eyeballing the right amount is very difficult,” says William C. Kerr, Ph.D., a senior scientist at the Alcohol Research Group in Emeryville, California. “Most of us don’t even know how much we should be shooting for, so overpouring is typical.”

It’s especially easy to overdo it with vino, given that the average wine glass these days looks big enough to hold a school of fish. So a bottle of light beer may be your best bet. “Unlike wine and mixed drinks, it’s portion controlled—the bottle is right there with the calories printed on it,” says Lisa Young, Ph.D., R.D., author of The Portion Teller Plan. “It eliminates the guesswork.”

If yes, then I can congratulate you and refer you to a minority of those, who are not concerned with their weight. But actually you should go on with your diet even if you are absolutely satisfied with your shaped figure. If you have excess pounds, you will need to shed them for health-related reasons irrespective how you feel about your body. You need to consider weight loss for numerous reasons, and here in this article we are going to discuss these reasons.

Being fat, first of all poses a high risk to your body as it can result in many various diseases. More likely, the greatest medical risk that you will be subjected to is cardiovascular disease and this can end up with a heart attack. If you have a cardiovascular disease your heart has to work harder to push blood around your body so your heart gets stressed and exhausted. When you are obese, you have a much wider system of blood vessels. They are getting stretched out and this in its turn raises peripheral resistance. Also, obese people have high level of cholesterol which is left on the inside walls of your arteries, again raising peripheral resistance. As a result of all that is that you heart has to work harder.

With cardiovascular disease or high blood pressure the risk of having a stroke is increased. If you have had a stroke, it means that a part of your brain does not get enough oxygen. With a high level of cholesterol you are posed at a high risk for stroke because of fatty deposits on the walls of your arteries. Basically, a part of this plaque can be broken and if it is lodged in a brain artery, it will cause a stroke. If it is set in a secondary artery, heart attack will be as a result.
If you want to prevent this, you should consider weight loss for yourself.

If a woman wants to get pregnant, then being fat can cause some problems. Overweight women have a changed hormone balance. This hormone imbalance in some cases, can serve to obstruct the ability to ovulate and carry a child in the end. If you become pregnant, obesity can cause miscarriage, pregnancy induced hypertension, gestational diabetes and a whole list of other bad consequences.

Apart from the health-related risks involved, your every day life can be influenced by being overweight. It will be difficult for you to find clothes that are suitable for you, or if you managed to find the right clothes for you, it will be expensive. First of all, the clothing producer will need to use more material and time. In addition shopping looking for clothes, you can face other difficulties. Many public transportation and airlines are not very comfortable for overweight people. So, to make a conclusion, even if you are happy with your current weight, a healthy weight loss diet is a reasonable and healthy option for you.

How many times have you gone to sleep at night, swearing you’ll go to the gym within the morning, and then changing your mind just eight hours later because once you get up, you don’t really feel like exercising?

Although this can occur for the best of us, it doesn’t mean you must drop the ball altogether when it comes to staying fit. What persons need to realize is that staying active and consuming suitable are critical for long-term wellness and wellness — and that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. The more you know about how your physique responds to your life style options, the superior you are able to customize a nutrition and workout plan which is suitable for you personally. Whenever you eat well, boost your level of physical exercise, and exercise at the right intensity, you are informing your system which you need to burn a substantial amount of fuel. This translates to burning fat extra efficiently for energy.
In other words, suitable eating habits plus exercising equals quick metabolism, which, in turn gives you much more vitality during the day and enables you to do more physical function with less effort.

The true purpose of exercising is to send a repetitive message for the physique asking for improvement in metabolism, strength, cardio capacity and overall fitness and health. Each time you workout, your body responds by upgrading its capabilities to burn up extra fat all through the day and evening, Physical exercise does not have to be intense to perform for you, but it does need to have to be consistent.

I recommend engaging in normal cardiovascular workout four instances per week for 20 to 30 mins per session, and resistance training four times per week for 20 to 25 minutes per session. This balanced approach gives an one-two punch, incorporating cardio physical exercise to burn body fat and deliver more oxygen, and resistance training to improve lean human body mass and burn up far more calories around the block.

Here’s a sample training plan that may well get the job done for you:

* Warm Up — seven to eight mins of light aerobic exercise intended to increase blood flow and lubricate and warm-up your tendons and joints.

* Resistance Training — Train all major muscle groups. One to two sets of every singleexercising. Rest 45 seconds between sets.

* Aerobic Exercise — Pick two favorite activities, they might be jogging, rowing, biking or cross-country skiing, whatever fits your life style. Perform 12 to 15 minutes with the initial exercise and continue with 10 mins from the second exercise. Cool down during the last five minutes.

* Stretching — Wrap up your exercising session by stretching, breathing deeply, relaxing and meditating.

When starting an exercising program, it’s important to have realistic expectations. Depending on your initial fitness level, you must expect the following changes early on.

* From 1 to 8 weeks — Feel far better and have more power.

* From two to six months — Lose size and inches although becoming leaner. Clothes start to fit a lot more loosely. You’re gaining muscle and losing extra fat.

* After six months — Begin losing weight quite rapidly.

Once you make the commitment to training various periods a week, don’t stop there. You ought to also change your diet and/or eating habits,’ says Zwiefel. Counting calories or calculating grams and percentages for particular nutrients is impractical. Instead, I suggest these easy-to-follow guidelines:

* Eat various small meals (optimally four) and a couple of small snacks through the day
* Make certain each meal is balanced — incorporate palm-sized proteins like lean meats, fish, egg whites and dairy products, fist-sized portions of complex carbohydrates like whole-wheat bread and pasta, wild rice, multigrain cereal and potatoes, and fist-sized portions of vegetable and fruits
* Limit your extra fat intake to only what’s essential for adequate flavor
* Drink at least eight 8-oz. glasses of water all through the day
* I also advocate that you just take a multi-vitamin each day to ensure you are obtaining all the vitamins and minerals your human body needs.

I suppose that’s all I can believe of for now. I ought to extend my thanks to a physicianfriend of mine. Without him, I wouldn’t be able to write this article, or keep my sanity.

Take pleasure in life, we all deserve it.

A study from the University of Rhode Island showed that women who raced through a pasta lunch in nine minutes ate 646 calories. Those who took their time (about half an hour) consumed almost 70 fewer calories. And not only did they eat less — they felt fuller.

f you’re in the process of losing weight, or you’re developing a natural weight loss plan to lose weight, then you’re likely looking at how to incorporate exercise into your program. To do this, it’s helpful to understand the different types of exercise available to you and how they impact the body.

There are three primary types of exercise; strengthening, flexibility and aerobic. The truth is; it’s best if you can incorporate some level of each of these types of exercise into your exercise program, and it doesn’t have to be as hard as it might seem to do so.

Aerobic Exercise

Aerobic exercise uses oxygen to fuel the muscles and makes your heart work harder. When you engage in regular aerobic exercise, you burn calories and fat which in turn helps you lose weight. Doctors recommend engaging in 30 minutes of cumulative aerobic exercise every day for optimal health. Aerobic exercise includes running, jogging, bicycling, swimming, basketball, skiing and climbing stairs to name a few. You may also choose to participate in an aerobics class to get your regular dose of aerobic exercise.

Strengthening Exercise

Strengthening exercise builds muscular strength and is a great complement to aerobic exercise. Lifting weights or utilizing resistance training machines are a great way to build muscle strength, but you can also successfully build muscle in the comfort of your own home by doing sit-ups, push-ups, leg lifts or taking a 2-5 pound weight with you when you go for a walk. Resistance bands can be purchased and used in the comfort of your home, as well.

Flexibility Training

Flexibility training is important because as we age, the full range of motion of our muscles and joints can decrease, and stretching can prevent this from happening. It’s easy to incorporate stretching into your exercise routine by stretching for at least 5-10 minutes before and after aerobic and strength-training exercise programs. And be sure you don’t overstretch, as this can injure your body.

There are different exercise program options that you can choose to incorporate into your exercise program for weight loss that includes all of the above areas of focus. Pilates, for example, provides strength training, stretching and aerobic exercise. Yoga does the same, with an emphasis on quieting the mind and increasing focus and balance. Various forms of Martial Arts are also a good option to keep weight loss interesting. Or you may choose to purchase a video to move along with in the comfort of your own home. The options are endless.

It doesn’t matter what you choose in regards to an exercise routine as long as it works for you and keeps you motivated. The important thing is you’re exercising regularly and incorporating aerobic, strength training and stretching exercises into whatever routine you choose for you. By doing so, you’ll get a more comprehensive exercise experience that provides the maximum impact and gain for your body as you venture down the path to weight loss.
